In a divided vote in March of 2019, Chicago City Council awarded a contract to build a new Cop Academy in Chicago to the notorious AECOM, builders of police stations & prisons around the world.

This was Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s vision, and Mayor Lightfoot doubled down on it. She cut the ribbon on the new cop academy on January 25, 2023 – One week after Tortuguita was killed by Georgia State Police in a raid on the Stop Cop City encampment in Atlanta.

For years, we have fought for funding for our communities, and we will continue to support each other in building genuine community safety in the face of escalating attacks.  It’s time to defund the police.
